Welcome to K7JQM Shack

I don't have a HamShack yet!

These are my first equipment for this hobby.

1. Baofeng UV-5R
I decided to purchase UV-5R to introduce myself into HAM radio. The radio is inexpensive, I bought it for about $25 online. I learned how to program it, and because of my location, I can only hit one analog repeater. The folks on that repeater are very friendly so I was encouraged to go on.

2. Anytone AT-D878UV+
I decided to purchase this next because I want to try out DMR. I bought this because of the value of their support, and the presence of the brand here in the United States. These kinds of radios are not cheap, but I know that this radio will last a long time. Although newer models will come up, probably just upgrades and other utilities added to them, but the overall functionality of the radio will be the same.

3. Lonestar MMDVM Duplex Hotspot
Now that I have a DMR radio, and I cannot hit any DMR repeaters in our area. I decided to purchase my own hotspot. I could've just bought a hotspot from Amazon for about $65, but then again, I worried about warranty and support. Did a quick search online and found N5BOC's Lonestar MMDVM Duplex Pi-Hat. I tend to support US made products if I can. I bought the unit with the two antennas. This is my step-by-step guide on how I setup my own hotspot.

4. Raspberry Pi Zero WH
I bought this version of Pi because I am not good at soldering. You must get the Pi Zero with headers so that you don't have to solder anything to get your hotspot going.
